Nanny Salary Guide 2026
What professional Nannies actually earn in Georgia and across the US, by years of experience, certification, and care type.
Nanny compensation varies more than most families expect — and more than many Nannies realize they can negotiate. Published rates disagree with each other by ten dollars an hour, mostly because they count different things: a listings site averages babysitting posts in with career Nannies, and an agency guide counts only the Nannies it places.
This guide is for professional Nannies — people with real experience who work with families long term. The simplest version fits in one sentence: start at $22 an hour and add about a dollar for every year of experience. The table below is that sentence written out, with the specialist rates that sit outside it.
Georgia is one of the stronger Nanny markets in the Southeast, and metro Atlanta runs above the state figure. Demand outpaces supply for Newborn Care Specialists in particular.

What Affects a Nanny's Rate
The formula
Start at $22/hr for a professional Nanny and add about $1/hr for each year of experience. A Nanny with eight years should expect around $30/hr in Georgia before any of the factors below. This is the arithmetic the table above is built on.
Location
The table is a Georgia figure. Metro Atlanta — Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, East Cobb — runs $2–$5/hr above it, and the premium grows with experience.
Certifications
CPR + First Aid adds $1–3/hr. NCS certification is its own rate, not an add-on — see the table. A cleared background check is increasingly expected rather than paid extra for.
Number of children
Each additional child adds $1–2/hr, more for twins or an infant alongside a toddler. Families with 3+ children should budget at the top of the band.
Live-in vs. live-out
Live-in positions include room and board and are quoted weekly. The hourly rate is often slightly lower but total compensation is often higher — and under federal law the hours are still hours. Agree the schedule in writing.
Benefits
Health insurance, paid vacation, and mileage reimbursement are increasingly standard for full-time roles. Factor these into your total compensation comparison.
Schedule flexibility
Overnight, weekend, or holiday availability commands a 20–50% premium above standard hourly rates.
Household Employer Tax Obligations
If you pay a Nanny $3,000 or more in 2026 (the IRS household employee threshold, up from $2,800 in 2025), you are legally required to withhold and pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, and may owe federal and state unemployment taxes. Nannies paid as W-2 employees — not 1099 contractors — have stronger legal protections and easier access to benefits. Consider using a household payroll service like GTM Payroll, HomePay, or SurePayroll to manage compliance.
